Introducing MASKA: Scandinavian Slow Luxury Arrives at BODY
There are pieces you wear, and then there are pieces that become part of your internal landscape; garments that feel lived-in from the first touch and carry forward a lineage of intentional craft. We are honored to welcome one of such lineage to BODY: MASKA, an independent slow-luxury house from Sweden, rooted in four generations of textile tradition and guided by a design philosophy that feels deeply aligned with our values.
Derived from the Swedish word for “knitted stitch,” MASKA carries the quiet poetry of its origins. The brand’s story begins in the textile region of Borås, where founder Maria Svensson spent her childhood in her great-grandmother’s sewing factory. Here, amid the hum of machines and the scent of wool, she absorbed the old-world rhythms of clothing made slowly and made well. The experience was formative—watching fabrics transform under skilled hands, she learned to recognize the soul of a garment: its structure, its drape, its longevity.
That lineage is felt in every piece MASKA creates. Contemporary yet grounded, the collection reflects authentic Scandinavian design principles of calm minimalism, intuitive functionality, and a reverence for natural materials. Silhouettes skim the body with an effortless elegance, offering flattering, wearable shapes that support the cadence of everyday life. Their garments do not demand attention; they hold space for you to simply feel like yourself.
MASKA’s philosophy rests on three pillars: craft, durability, and elegant versatility. Elaborate knitted structures, meticulous detailing, and considered proportions come together in pieces that transcend aesthetics. Each item performs as a kind of second skin—quiet, intentional, and expressive in its simplicity.
Since 2023, the creative direction of MASKA has been stewarded by Paris-based designer Tove Johansson, known for her work at Maison Kitsuné and Christian Lacroix. Her perspective brings a refined modernity to MASKA’s codes while honoring the brand’s longstanding textile heritage. The result is a collection that feels current yet timeless, global yet deeply rooted.
Sustainability is not a marketing position for MASKA—it’s a lived practice. With an expert understanding of natural fibers, the team approaches each garment with clarity: choosing the right fiber, treated in the right way, to create the right piece. Wool, hemp, linen, alpaca, mohair, silk, camel hair—each is celebrated for its innate qualities.
MASKA remains thoughtfully small, independent, and committed to ethical production. Ninety-five percent of their knitwear and wovens are produced within the EU, with direct relationships to family-owned mills and factories in Italy, Portugal, Lithuania, and Bulgaria. Their cashmere and silk are produced in Nepal under GOTS-certified processes, supporting a transparent and responsible supply chain.
Today, MASKA can be found in over 70 boutiques worldwide—and now, proudly, at BODY. We invite you to explore this collection of modern heirlooms: pieces meant not just to be worn, but kept, tended to, and cherished.
