A day at the spa offers more than pampering

self care is health care

PRESS RELEASE

A trip to the spa has long been referred to as a day of “pampering”. BODY, a high-end day spa and yoga center in Santa Fe, prefers that we view self-care as an everyday essential.

“Choosing wellness is not an act of indulgence,” reflects Lori Parrish, 19-year founder and owner of BODY. “With remote working, so many people relocating, and of course the pandemic, we’ve been putting our needs for self-care on hold. BODY aspires to be a safe space to emerge and be well.”

Like they have for many, the past few years have been a time of reflection for the staff at BODY. As they rebuild their massage, facial, and yoga class business to pre-pandemic levels, they are steadfast in their values and desire to make a difference. This rumination led BODY to sharpen their mission by defining a new calling to “radiate wellness”.

“We believe the investment you make in your own wellness has a direct link to the positivity you emit into the world. We want you to feel good, inside and out, so that you can do good.” —Lorin Parrish, founder of BODY

In their annual report, the Global Wellness Institute supported this shift in perspective with the declaration: “The multitude of stressors unleashed by the pandemic have brought a profound shift in how we view self-care. Now, self-care is becoming a means for self-preservation and survival…[wellness]is an essential focus to be embedded in our daily lives and priorities.”

Massage in particular, has health benefits that can benefit a variety of conditions including anxiety, digestive disorders, headaches, and back back and neck pain. According to the Mayo Clinic, massage benefits include:

  • Reducing stress and increasing relaxation

  • Reducing pain and muscle soreness and tension

  • Improving circulation, energy and alertness

  • Lowering heart rate and blood pressure

  • Improving immune function

While a trip to the spa may still feel like a treat, real transformation comes when wellness is weaved into an ongoing routine.
