  1. An hour or so before you caffeinate, kickstart your day with a glass of water infused with fresh lemon. Throughout the day, carry a reusable water bottle and sip regularly to replenish your body’s fluid levels.

  2. In Santa Fe, we are lucky to have some of the best drinking water coming straight from the tap. Beware of drinking distilled water. In addition to removing contaminants, the purification process removes healthy minerals and electrolytes.

  3. To keep things interesting, explore herbal infusions in your water (such as basil or rosemary) and munch on hydrating foods like watermelon and cucumber.

    Rare consideration: When you are out hiking on a hot day, fluids are a must, but don’t overdo it. We had a friend visit from sea level who tried to combat his altitude sickness while hiking back from Trampas Lakes (11,400 feet elevation) by drinking a TON of water. It was scary to see his body chemistry get out of balance as he entered early stages of hyponatremia. Luckily, we recognized this rare risk and had him stop his water intake and eat salty snacks

Your Skin is Thirsty Too

Lotion is your friend. Make sure to apply it straight out of the shower before you fully towel off.

  • The Dale Ball trail system provides us with 25 miles of trails accessible right from the city. There is a parking lot and trailhead at St. John’s college. Other hiking ideas.

  • Once you reach a peak or scenic vista, take a few minutes to breath in your accomplishment and appreciate showing up for yourself. Choose to elevate the mindful moment by engaging in yoga or meditation amidst the serene desert landscapes, fostering a deeper mind-body connection.

  • Consider the healing power of hot springs or mineral baths available in the Santa Fe area, where you can relax and rejuvenate your body while immersing yourself in the natural elements.
